The wireless communication technology has been evolved from 1G to 5G networks. The next 6G era will bring about higher demands for bandwidth and speed. Visible light communication (VLC) shows great potential in providing high speed and secure communication link by utilizing the unregulated visible light spectrum to carry the data. In this seminar, the overview of VLC will be presented first. The devices and components developed for VLC network will then be reviewed and discussed in details. I will also briefly talk about the application of underwater communication application by using visible light at the end of the seminar.

Probabilistic shaping based spatial modulation for spectral-efficient visible light communication

Visible light communication (VLC) is a promising technology for 6th-generation (6G) networks because of its attractive feature such as a wide unlicensed spectrum. However, the modulation bandwidth of lens of commercially available light-emitting diode (LEDs), which are used in optical wireless data links, is limited. Therefore, in order to improve spectral-efficiency of VLC systems, a novel adaptive coded spatial modulation (SM) scheme with probabilistic shaping (PS) has been proposed. The authors also designed an algorithm to compute the capacity-achieving distribution of the proposed scheme
